Frequently Asked Questions

Why should you choose United Seating & Mobility?
Here are answers to frequently asked questions.

What kind of company is United?

For more than 30 years, we’ve been the leading supplier of mobility products, dedicated to providing specialized wheelchairs for both children and adults. This unique profession requires extensive knowledge of physical and cognitive disabilities, product capabilities, reimbursement and service requirements.

What health plans does United accept?

We accept most major funding sources and health plans. We contract with some of the largest insurance companies, and our Customer Care Representatives work with your insurance company and your clinical team to provide you with the equipment you need.

Will all of my equipment be covered?

It varies from policy to policy; however, in general most mobility items are covered by insurance when submitted with proper medical documentation.

How long will it take to get my wheelchair?

Our goal is to get you the equipment you need as quickly as possible. Our many different programs, such as Mobility First, are designed to furnish you with your mobility equipment prior to your hospital discharge. If you would like to know more about these programs, please contact your United representative.

I’m not from the area and upon hospital discharge, I will return home. Will United help me once I leave?

Yes. We have many locations nationwide. In addition, we associate with a National Service Network of Wheelchair Professionals, which ensures that quality service is provided in the city or state you live in. Upon arriving home, we will continue to follow up with you so that your transition goes smoothly. We are here to assist you now and in the future.

Once I have my wheelchair, who provides future service and repairs?

Our service department is committed to your every service or repair need. Please call and make an appointment at one of our locations and we will be delighted to assist you. Our service technicians are certified by the manufacturers of the products we sell.

Mine is a unique situation. Will my United representative be qualified to make seating decisions?

Yes. All of our Seating and Mobility Specialists complete extensive training on diverse topics such as progressive diseases, anatomy, medical support documentation and product specifications. After training, they take an exam and apply for certification by the Rehab Engineering Society of North America (RESNA). After passing the exam, they become credentialed as Assistive Technology Practitioners (ATP).
