United Seating & Mobility
Putting lives in motion.™

Our History

Since 1979, United Seating & Mobility has been a leading provider of mobility dedicated to providing specialized wheelchairs to both children and adults with disabilities. This unique profession requires an extensive knowledge of physical and cognitive disabilities, product capabilities, reimbursement, service requirements and business insight.

Bob Gouy, President of United Seating & Mobility, began his career in seating and mobility with United Medical Mart in 1979. In 1989, he led an employee buyout of the company. During the next eight years, the business grew to be one of the largest regional seating and mobility companies in the country, with four locations in Missouri and Illinois.

Meanwhile, Chief Financial Officer Bill Rubin entered the home medical equipment business in 1984 when he purchased ProCare Medical Supply, a local home medical equipment and respiratory therapy business with five locations. In 1995, American HomePatient acquired ProCare Medical Supply.

Then, in 1997, American HomePatient acquired United Medical Mart. Bob stayed on to direct the rehab division. He gathered a strong team and built the division into 14 locations that specialized in a client-centered approach to seating and mobility solutions.

In 2001, American HomePatient restructured to focus on its core business of home medical equipment and respiratory therapy products. Bob and Bill saw the opportunity to purchase the separate and unique rehab group. The group, with 14 locations in nine states, became United Seating & Mobility, LLC. The company has since grown to 31 locations in 16 states.
