October is National Spina Bifida Awareness Month

In the United States each day, an average of eight babies are born with Spina Bifida or a similar defect of the brain and spine. Spina Bifida occurs when the spine of the baby fails to close during the first months of pregnancy. The effects are different for each person and there is no known cause. There are 166,000 people estimated currently living with Spina Bifida.  Please visit the Spinda Bifida Association web site for more information.
